“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” Pablo Picasso

How do you reconnect with your inner child artist?

I discovered a part of my self that I never knew existed when I picked up a paint brush. I never in my wildest dreams had considered myself to be an artist. So what changed? How have I gone from being the conservative accountant to the artist I am today. I now live my life like I paint my paintings. I paint and live from the soul.

I allow my art to flow without the need to control the outcome and this is summed so beautifully in the quote by Robert Motherwell, an American abstract expressionist painter.

“In the brush doing what it’s doing, it will stumble on what one couldn’t do by oneself.”

It’s about freeing yourself and allowing the energy of creativity to flow, it’s being prepared to paint a bad painting and to acknowledge that if you don’t express what you feel that unique energy will be lost. We are unique and any creative energy that flows through us in any form is unique and can’t be expressed by anyone else.
